If you have a twitter , Facebook , LinkedIn ,Last.fm and other social media accounts and you login regularly to keep a check , then its time you make use of Klout . Now , Klout is not another social networking web 2.0 services but actually a measurement of your overall online influence . Just sign in via twitter and Facebook and it wouldn’t hurt to check your score.

Klout, as the tagline suggests, is quickly becoming “The Standard for Influence” for the social web . The scores range on a scale of 1-100, with higher scores reserved for people who have a wider and stronger sphere of influence. It calculates more than 35 variables on Facebook and Twitter and recently, Klout started to count LinkedIn , Foursquare , last.fm , Instagram , Flickr toward the score, with YouTube , Facebook Pages and Google+ all promised soon.

My Klout Badge

Just like plenty of already available services to see how much dominating are you and what’s the audience and how far your tweets reach the world ,this is another algorithm, for more services along with twitter to rank user relevance.

Advantages of your Klout Score :

  • Viewing your Klout profile can give a good indication or an overview, of the topics you discuss most often in social media.
  • Also adds a human dimension to the algorithm, which can only get better over time.
  • There is no shortage of social data, metrics, measurement strategies scores and you get your daily analytics and listening platforms in the form of graph to help you figure it all out.

Now , the big question is “Do the influence scores help me attract good clients, partners and even investors?”

Yes ! of course ! If your score is healthy then it means you are developing good interesting content that connects with and provides value to your audience . A number of Advertising sites like SponsoredTweets , Mylikes , BuySellAds etc check and analyse your Klout score before calculating your exact per tweet value . You should give more attention to Klout scores as you give in college lectures . That’s how you should get good influence and strong command over social media . Klout score is next to perfect . For example, Celebs like Justin Bieber have a Klout score is a perfect 100 and it never seems to flicker, however if you are not one of the celeb then i am sure that your score would waffle from day-to-day depending on your Twitter usage and online mentions . Same goes for Facebook comments , likes received ..

The Klout Perks thing :

Klout score is now becoming a default medium for measuring twitter power . For example – On HootSuite, your Klout score appears on your Twitter profile whether you have logged into Klout or not. Again there are many apps and widgets having this +K button integrated . Then there’s another feature – Klout Perks . Perks are special marketing services reaching out to introduce new products through those people who have gigantic Klout score . In simpler words – it’s a program where marketers can send swag to influential social media users, hoping they’ll tell the rest of their network about a product or service . When choosing with whom to align themselves, more and more companies are considering your Klout score.

Like other algorithms, Klout is here to stay and i think everyone must have a Klout ! Just sign in via twitter or Facebook and connect all your social media accounts. Now you just have to be active to prove you can influence others 😉

I would love to hear what you think of this standard of influence 🙂

I recently started using Klout and it looks very promising. Till now we don’t have much services to measure our progress in social media sites, but Klout makes it possible.

I been using Klout from quite a some time now, and found it quite a amazing application .. it helps me a lot to see how my social networking profiles are performing over WWW … and recently they have added +Google in site … and I gained some significant score … before Klout i never gave much attention to engagement and amplification about my updates or tweets …

other than this I also use PeerIndex it also works on the same principal …
another great post … thanks for sharing your insights with us …

I was not aware about Klout in such details, although I have heard it earlier. It seems to be an excellent application, which can enhance the visibility of one in near future. I will definitely try to learn little more about it and apply it in coming days. Thanks for the information.

Klout looks attractive, but I think it’s a site that gets people to focus too much on their own “influence” rather than focusing on actually creating things of value to other people. If you do worthwhile work, and engage with others, influence will come naturally.

I also am somewhat skeptical of the Klout scores. It seems to measure quantitative things like retweets, number of followers, @-mentions, etc. True influence is being able to tweet at someone and get them to read, reflect, and think about what you said. True influence may not provoke immediate replies–which are often routine and don’t reflect that deep an exchange of information or ideas. A more influential twitter user may tweet at someone and induce them to update or modify their webpage, or write a new post or page about something — which might not be measured at all, or fully reflected in Klout’s scores.

In a niche area where I am knowledgeable (and influential, according to Klout), Klout gives similar scores to a few spam accounts as it does to well-respected experts who truly are influential.

So, it’s fun, but…I wouldn’t bank on it for being anything more than a fun site to play with if you’re bored.
