The New MySpace 3.0 goes live ! 13

Myspace was at the top and most popular social networking site in the United States in 2006. However it was badly overtaken internationally by its main competitor, Facebook in 2008 . This network was in the top Alexa 5 Ranking sites according to site visits , number of impressions , unique visitors but is currently in top 37 :p . If you had heard , Myspace were currently testing a new redesigned version of profile pages and the time has now come the #NewMyspace 3.0 goes live bringing number of promising new changes and maturing about time!

I never check Myspace [ just like orkut ] and am hooked to facebook but I need to check when I get new emails [friend requests 😀 ] . And today morning I checked Myspace and I was thrilled to see everything new !

Whats new :

The Update includes:

Clean New Design

  • A new left-hand navigation: Profile navigation has been condensed into the left hand navigation menu under the profile picture.
  • Focus on the stream: MySpace Stream — the site’s version of the Facebook News Feed — is the focus of the new profiles. You can view a user’s recent activity, comment on items and share content with friends.

MySpace Connect

  • Follow on other social networks: There’s a new module giving you the option to follow a user on not only MySpace but also on Twitter, Facebook and other social networks. Whether this is a standard module remains to be seen.
  • A vastly improved User Interface : Without doubt, the new profiles feature better design than their predecessors, which themselves have been the scourge of social web app designers for a few years now.

MySpace Custom Profiles

Even it looks better than orkut . And seems like Myspace is the new friendfeed as it tends to aggregate all of your social network profiles from around the web.  It claims its not “Social Networking site” but it’s about social entertainment hub that allows for the discovery of music, celebrities, television, movies, games, videos and photos.

But the main cool thing is that it’s cleaner and more attractive than in previous period when MySpace had earned a reputation for being the ugliest, most cluttered and ad-stuffed  social network on the Internet. The new thing looks fresh – however not like facebook .

What has happened to Logo ?

The updated logo :

New MySpace Logo

The then MySpace Logo :

Old MySpace Logo

The “Space” seems to have been disappeared and the logo has got a makeover. Instead of reading “MySpace,” the new logo reads “My” followed by a blank.  This might signify that MySpace can now mean lots of things to different people but now looks like it’s now not a place for friends 😛 [ Just Kidding ]

Trending Feature :

Topics and Curators Follow Feature

The user experience is better [Much better than previous Myspace one ! ] . Now it’s not too flashy or animated like sparkling profile ads , or gif gifts . The updated layout offers trending content [Inspired from Twitter ? ] featuring what’s happening “right now” on MySpace . Now even the regular MySpace users can now be promoted to “Curator” status . These curators are basically MySpace experienced junkies people who have attained “power user authority” status when they contribute to the site .

Is it Worth Staying ? :

Now having all the people [you too !] switched to facebook , the question arises “why can’t I forget MySpace ?” . All that being said is , the made-over site is worth a look. But still there are people who are concerned about their privacy on facebook and MySpace does have some appeal to old people . Even though Facebook have a half-a-billion user-base , still it has lots of haters and about Myspace ? Nobody yet knows about it 😛 So for the enthusiastic people who loves to create profiles on all sites and explore something different and new , MySpace is worth it !

Now directly head over to the New Myspace 3.0 . [it’s still in beta ]

Did you like the new MySpace ?

Thanks for sharing the knowledge about MySpace 3.0 but according to me there is no alternative of Face Book.

Well, its nice to see Myspace changing its look and layout. But, there seems nothing new except the new look. All of the features are available at Facebook. So, why would anyone switch to myspace when you’ve got all things set on Facebook??? Myspace needs to work on something innovative, just like Facebook used “Login with Facebook” and such buttons which really drived it to top position on social network.
    Thanks for the article indeed.

Completely agreed Rajesh , Myspace is loosing its golden touch it had before the facebook days 😛 Bad UI , worst ad positions and sucky news feed . Myspace needs lots of work to do to remain alive in social networking .

That just made it look more similar to FB
They’re trying too hard, if I were them I would give up already. Site is a complete failure now

My space had a really cool new look but looks like they can’t no longer topple down FB in the peak of their popularity. Many people now are being more active in FB than in any other social networking sites.

Myspace has been popular back in my college years. However, the existence of FB made it difficult to myspace to get a large # of people who are into social networking sites. Though it’s still nice for them to develop this new myspace feature.

Really seems a case of too little too late.
Myspace’s main appeal always seemed to be that it would allow bands to stream music without incurring bandwidth costs or having any technical knowledge.

If they’d built on that – eg allowing people to embed their music player on other sites, and focussing on the fact that their main user base seemed to be bands, then I think it would be doing much better than it is now.
